Gunn was brought up by her parents Sharon Anna Kathryn Shana Gunn (an interior designer) and Clemens Ear Gunn Jr. who resided in Santa Fe New Mexico. Santa Fe Preparatory School graduated in the year 1986. She was a student at Northwestern University where she majored in theatre and was graduated in the year 1990. Gunn was a student in the United Kingdom with the British American Drama Academy during fall 1988. Following her move into Laurel Canyon Los Angeles she lived in a home with Pamela Adlon. Gunn is best known for her character Skyler White in the AMC drama Breaking. Her outstanding performance on the show in 2013, and 2014 she received a nomination for Primetime Emmy Award Outstanding Supporting Actress in an Drama Series. In August 2013 she wrote an op-ed piece for The New York Times examining the negative comments made by people about her character.
