She was a sports reporter for some of the largest outlets in the nation. Her time working at The Washington Post was spent with several Olympics, Grand Slam Tennis along with basketball, football and other sports. Nichols spent nine years at ESPN which was where she earned two Emmy Awards. She also worked as a correspondent for Monday Night Football on the network. Then she moved on to CNN as well as Turner Sports. The first program she developed and hosted was her own show, Unguarded with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN as well as CNN International. This show attracted more than one-billion viewers in the entire globe. Nichols also reported on behalf of TNT in NBA broadcasts during playoffs and All-Star broadcasts. Also, she reported for TBS broadcasting golf and baseball broadcasts, and Final Four broadcasts on CBS. In the 42 year history of the award, this was the only time a woman had been in the list of 200+ nominees.
